Metro Brokers TriathlON FridayThis was a concept I proposed over a year ago to the Metro Brokers, Board of Directors and it's gone from idea to reality! If you are a triathlete or ever considered testing yourself by competing in a triathlon, this is an outstanding opportunity. Click the logo on the left to check out all the information on this unique event. And even if you don't or can't compete, there's a need for volunteers and of course spectators are more than welcome. The best part about this event is it's on a Friday evening with a 6pm start time so there's no need to wake up at the crack of dawn.

Okay, thought I'd conclude my thoughts about the iPhone with a short review of the first week. There's no doubt in my mind that in 5 years, the current iPhone will be looked at as the device that started it all. It has the ability and potential to replace so many other things we use like remote controls, keyboards, laptops, tap measures, levels, dice, radios, etc. So far, I love this phone and with the open application development (people are making applications for the iPhone), it's sure to become even better. I've heard people say they won't get one because of the battery life. Well I've been on the iPhone for about 3 hours of talking every day for the last 5 days, checking email every 30 minutes, opening attachments (by the way it opens .docx and .xlsx files when my computer won't), using google maps and GPS, and playing games while waiting for meetings to start, and the battery hasn't yet gone below 1/2 full before I go to bed. Then it recharges to full in about 20 minutes! I can recharge in an outlet or by plugging it into the computer.

Get it, you won't be disappointed.

Well after waiting for it since the beginning of the year, and spurned by the fact that my current phone, the Samsung Blackjack, decided to stop working properly (weak signal, no service, etc.), I decided to invest in the new iPhone 3G. And so far, I like it very much. I'm still setting things up and learning how to use everything, but it's pretty darn cool.

My old phone had email, so that's nothing new, but the iPhone is faster and easier to read messages. The coolest new features that I never had before though are:

1) GPS tracking. I view a google map and it shows where I am, then I can select a destination and it'll give me directions. If I'm outside, it's very accurate (maybe by satellite) but inside it's a triangulation of cell towers and just gives an approximate location.

2) Safari Browser: It's the Internet as it's meant to be seen! Especially useful with my online contracts because now I can actually write a contract, or amendment, on the phone and send it to a client. And with Wi-Fi, it's almost as fast as turning on the laptop!

 3) Visual Voicemail: I don't know if it uses plan minutes to access voicemail or not, which was always one of my biggest complaints with cell phone plans, but on the iPhone I can see voicemail organized like email. I tap it and I hear the message played on my phone. I never have to dial into my voicemail account so I don't think it's using minutes but I'm not sure yet.

The iPhone 3G has opened the door to what we'll all be using soon, of that I'm sure. The experts say that the computer mouse will be obsolete in 5 years and replaced with touchscreen technology. iPhone is already there and I love it.

I went to the Apple store today to see if I should buy the new iPhone 3G and to my surprise they are on 2-3 week backorder! Didn't apple anticipate the demand? Now I have to decide if it's worth the wait. My current phone seems to be having issues getting a cell signal anywhere other than standing right next to a tower, so I know I need to get a new phone, but what other option do I have?
