West Highlands ---Rated Highly Walkable

Text Box: The Highlands region originated in 1858 when Denver founder William H. Larimer, Jr., waded across the Platte River to stake out high ground on the bluffs northwest of Denver. Bought and later sold by Reverend Walter M. Potter, the 320-acre area bordered by West Avenue, Zuni Street, West 32nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard became home to many Scottish, German, Italian and English immigrants in the 1890s.

Denver's Highlands Park neighborhood has undergone drastic changes in the past few years. From shady to chic, this neighborhood, in all its picturesque glory, is on the up-and-up. Highlands is now a cove of cozy restaurants, novelty stores and martini bars just outside the bustle of Downtown Denver.  The commercial district, known as Highlands Square, along 32nd Avenue is lined with trendy boutiques, like Perfect Petal ; martini bars, Swim Club  and The Coral Room; coffee shops, Common Ground: Americana restaurants, Bang!, Julia Blackbirds, Boa, Mead St. Station and salons such as Harmony and Vida, an Aveda concept salon.  You can read about the some of the events and community functions on Highands Square’s website.  The Lumber Baron Inn, a bed and breakfast, is the perfect place to stay just off the main drag and offers visitors a chance to absorb the richness of the neighborhood. With its growing allure for residents and businesses, Highlands is bound to blossom even more in the coming years.
